Badatorren Amerika (eus / cast / eng)

Donald J. Trumpek Estatu Batuetako hauteskundeak irabazi ditu, ia. Urtarrilean izendatuko duten presidente berriak 63 milloi boto inguru jaso ditu eta bere aurkariak, EEBBetan presidentegaia zen lehenengo emakumea, Hillary Clintonek, aldiz 65 millioi. Baina arauak arau, Trumpi dagokio orain munduko naziorik boteretsuena aurrera eramatea. Denoi bururatzen zaigun galdera zera da: bai, baina nora?

2016ko azaroaren 9an nola eta non esnatu ziren gogoratuko dute askok eta askok, Amerikan zein mundu osoan. “Donald Trump, irabazlea” hitzak entzuteak edo irakurtzeak ezinegona sortarazi zien pertsona ugariei. Estatu Batuetan lehenengo emakumea presidente gisa izatea baino etengabeko irainak botatzen dituen handiki bat hautatzea nahiago izan dutela asumitu eta gero – errealitatea onartu ostean, alegia – hemendik aurrera zer gertatuko ote den galdera nagusia bilakatu da.

Emaitzetatik haratago, Estatu Batuetako biztanlearen gehiengoak normaltasuna nahi omen du, baina hauteskunde ondoren hain polarizatua geraturiko gizarte batean sen ona zein den asmatzea ez da kontu makala izango. Aurreratu denez, protekzionismo aro berri batean sartuko dira amerikarrak, eta ildo hori jarraituz etorkinen egoera okertuko da, legaltasunetik kanpo daudenak kanporatuz. Halere indarrean dagoen sistema juridikoak ez du edozein politika onartuko, eta Kongresuan zein Senatuan dauden gehiengo aldakorrek (Alderdi Errepublikanoan denek ez dute Trumpekin bat egiten) egoera orekatu dezakete.

Amerikan gertatu dena, baina, ez da salbuespen bat izan; haatik, aurrera doan dinamika global baten testuinguruan kokatzen da. Erresuma Batuko Brexit-a eta 2017ko Frantziako hauteskundeetan gertatu daitekeena honen adibide argiak izango lirateke. Populismo atzerakoi horri Alt-right (eskuin alternatiboa) izena ipini izan zaio, eta soziologoen ustez iraganaren idealizazioaz, islamismoarekiko beldurraz eta egoera ekonomiko txarrez elikatu egiten da.

Joko-zelai nahasi horretan eskubide zibilak, LGBTrenak tartean, kaltetu litezke, eta horregatik EEBBetan etor daitekeenaren zain daude hiritarrak.

LGBT ESKUBIDEAK, ZIURGABETASUNEAN
Trumpen garaipena dela eta LGBT komunitateak lorturiko aurrerapenak, Barack Obamaren administraziopean erdietsitakoak, kolokan gera daitezke. Egia esan, presidente berria ez da les-gay-trans eskubideen aurka publikoki agertu, izan ere iraganean iritzi positiboa adierazi zuen. Baina azken aldiotan, Errepublikanoen ildo gogorrenekin bat egiteko nahian, “feminismoaren eta genero-ideologiaren” kontra ohartarazi du, LGBT gaiak agian multzo horretan sartuz.

Edonola ere, Mike Pence, hautatutako presidenteorde berriari hainbat aldiz jarrera homofoboak leporatu dizkiote. Adibidez, orain arte gobernatu duen Indiana estatuan kontzientzia-eragozpenaren izenean LGBT langileak kaleratzea posible izatea bultzatu zuen; eta homosexualitateren itzulgarritasuna defendatu egin du. Aurrekari horiekin, Estatu Batuetako LGBT sareak alarma guztiak piztu ditu eta gai honekiko ziurgabetasuna nagusituko den legealdi baterako prestatzen ari da.

Estatu Batuetako emaitzak mundu mailako joera oso baten erakusleak dira, non LGBT eskubideak bermaturik egotetik urrun dauden. Garai berri baten aurrean, eta berandu izan baino lehen, LGBTren aldeko estrategia politiko-sozial berriak beharrezkoak izango dira, etorkizunari begira orain arte emandako aurrerapauso ez daitezela atzera itzuli. Duda barik hurrengo lau urteotan begi guztiak Ipar Amerikan praktikan jarriko den Trump-esperimentuaren gainean ipiniko dira, bere benetako irismena eta nondik norakoak jakin-minez irrikan.

ENTREVISTA: RICHARD BRETHOUR-BELL

¿Habéis comenzado a planificar algo?

INTERVIEW: RICHARD BRETHOUR-BELL
President of Santa Fe Pride, NM (USA) and director for Region 3 of InterPride

Richard Brethour-Bell

BLUE: As you know, in Europe we’ve been following the US election very closely. As an LGBT leader and an american citizen, how do you feel about the outcome of the November election? Were you expecting it?

Richard Brethour-Bell: Like most Americans, I was shocked.  I didn’t understand how this could happen.  We’ve come so far as a nation in terms of civil rights, gay rights, including marriage equality, and women’s rights.  How did we elect a man who opposed those things?  It feels like a giant step backwards from so much progress that was made.  As an African American, someone who is a descendant of those who fought and died for equality, I was embarrassed to be an American

B:  In order to understand what’s going on in the States… from your point of view, how has it happened, what has socially lead to the new President-elect to win?

RBB: I think that the direction the country was moving in really bothered a certain section of the population.  The Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality, had a polarizing effect on many.  I interpreted Trump’s slogan, «Make America Great Again», to mean make it great for white, conservative, heterosexuals again. I don’t think that all who voted for Trump are racists, but there are clearly those who don’t have a problem with his racist, homophobic, misogynistic, anti-Islamic rhetoric.  Apathy is another reason for this election result.  Many gays saw marriage equality as an end to the fight for gay rights. Wrong!

B: What can we expect from now on? Do you think this administration will have any effect towards the LGBT+ community and the LGBT+ rights?

RBB: The Vice President elect, Mike Pence has proposed legislation that would give people the right to legally discriminate against gays on the grounds of their religious beliefs.  I consider him an enemy to the LGBT+ community.  He and those who voted for Trump will come after us.  For the last three years, I have stood on the pride stage in Santa Fe, New Mexico and told people that just like we had to fight to attain equal rights, we have to fight to retain those same rights.  Never have those words been truer than now.

B: How is the LGBT community going to face the next 4 years? Are you already planning on anything?

RBB: The LGBT community would first have to realize the danger of apathy.  We have always have had to be prepared for those who threaten our liberty.  We weren’t this time, and that has to change.  Our goal for the next 4 years should be to make sure that we get someone who is qualified, and fit to do the job of President of the United States of America.  We need unity, not hate, to move forward.  That is the most important message that we need to get across to our community, as well as the nation.
